General navigation:
Slide left: Scrolls on.
Slide right: Scrolls back.
Two finger zoom (stretch or pinch): Some of the lists and views can be displayed bigger and/or smaller.
Swipe from the top or bottom edge of the screen: Context menu (bottom) and navigation bar (top) appear.
Swipe from the right edge of the screen to the left: Windows menu opens with access to search, share as well as settings menu with help texts, about info.
Tap on images, icons and texts: Select chapter/recipe/ingredients.
Back arrow: Back to last view.
The Cook’s Encyclopedia supports the snap view feature of the operating system. The scaled-down versions are used in the same way as the full-screen version, except for the single-column version: here the preparation steps are located at the bottom instead of the top.

Navigation menu:
Choices include: Chapter - Favorites - Shopping List - Glossary

Chapter view:
Scroll through 21 chapters!
Zoom in and out of the chapter view using two finger zoom.
Tap on the chapter title to open the list of recipes and preparations.
Show an overview by zooming out with two finger zoom.
Tap on a photo of a recipe in the chapter view or in the recipe list to open the recipe view.
Tap on the chapter title to show all the recipes of the selected chapter.

Recipe view:
General information: Number of persons or quantity. 
Level of difficulty: * easy ** intermediate *** advanced.
Preparation time in minutes or hours and minutes.
Tap on the image to select the ingredients – a shopping basket appears. Tap again to cancel the selection.
Scroll through the preparation steps. There is usually a tip at the end of each recipe.

Swipe from the bottom or top edge of the screen to open the context menu (bottom). 
Tap on the shopping basket to copy the selected ingredients to the shopping list. 
Tap on the Favorites icon to copy the recipe to the favorites list. If the recipe is already in the favorites list, - Favorites will appear instead of + Favorites for optional removal of the recipe.

Swipe from the right edge of the screen to open the Windows menu. Use the Share function to send the recipe by e-mail. 

Favorites list:
Shows a list of your favorites.
Tap on the recipe photo to open the recipe.
To remove the recipe from the favorites list: Swipe from the bottom or top edge of the screen to display the context menu and use the - Favorites option.

Shopping list:
Tap on the image to tick off ingredients. Tap again to cancel.
To remove a recipe from the shopping list: Tap on the title to activate the recipe. The active shopping list is flagged with a recycle bin. Swipe from the bottom or top edge of the screen to open the context menu and tap on the recycle bin in the lower context menu to delete the active recipe.
Swipe from the right edge of the screen to open the Windows menu. Use the Share function to send the shopping list by e-mail.

Explanatory notes to the ingredients

A teaspoon equals 5 ml; a tablespoon equals 15 ml. If milk is called for and nothing else is specified, use whole milk. The amounts specified for potatoes, vegetables, and eggs refer to medium sizes. Pepper always means freshly ground pepper.

The times given are an approximate guide only. Preparation times differ according to the techniques used by different people and the cooking times may also vary from those given as a result of the type of oven used. Optional ingredients, variations or serving suggestions have not been included in the calculations.

Recipes using raw or very lightly cooked eggs should be avoided by infants, the elderly, pregnant women, convalescents, and anyone with a chronic condition. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are advised to avoid eating peanuts and peanut products. Sufferers from nut allergies should be aware that some of the ready-prepared ingredients used in the recipes in this book may contain nuts. Always check the packaging before use.
